When Betty Picard sings, people like what they hear. Of a performance with the Topeka Symphony, a critic
wrote: “Picard was exceptional. Her gorgeous voice, so pure, so expressive, lofted the exquisite ‘Pie Jesu” (Fauré) to the heavens.” A native of Sparta, Michigan, Betty earned a B.A. in Education (1981) at Hope
College in Holland, Michigan, while studying with the late Joyce Morrison. She moved to Topeka, Kansas, in 1986 with her husband, Tom, and was a full-time homemaker while their children, Katy and Adam, were
young. In Topeka, she studied with Professor Emeritus, Gordon Gaines for several years and continued under his tutelage as she completed a B.M.
in Vocal Performance at Washburn University (1999.) Currently Betty and family live in Richland, Michigan, where she recently completed a Master of Music degree in voice at Michigan State
University and is delighting a whole new audience of fans.
